Using the Right Time Management Tools
Without the proper use of time management, your business will suffer. When time is mismanaged the morale of the corporate employees also suffers. And along the same line, when you use the wrong time management tools to ensure productivity, you will find yourself with disgruntled workers and terrible job performance. There is not just one time management tool; there are many. Your job as an employer is to find the time management tool, or tools, that work best for your company. In doing so, you will find yourself in charge of a motivated, effective team. Here are a few suggestions to help you get started. Supervision as a Time Management Tool A good way to ensure that time is being spent wisely is to hire competent supervisors to monitor your workers. Someone who has spent time in the company, but perhaps in a different department best fills this job. When someone has spent years with the same co-workers it is hard for them to take an unbiased position of authority. A good supervisor must possess the ability to enforce rules without showing partiality to long time friends. Good supervision is a very necessary time management tool. Reporting as a Time Management Tool Daily, weekly, and monthly reporting makes a fine time management tool. When an employer expects a report of work that has been done and activities that the employee has taken part in, it will force the staff to make good use of their time. Filling out progress and status reports also alleviates the pressure on a supervisor to constantly be watching and harping on the employee. This improves what could otherwise be a strained relationship with a supervisor, which will, in turn, free up the supervisor to be able to handle problems that may arise. An employee that feels as though the supervisor or manager above them is simply out to get them will not feel comfortable bringing any problems that they may have to their attention. This will result in dissatisfied employees, a high turnover rate, and a damaged business. Communication as a Time Management Tool Many hours are wasted in the course of the business day due to the fact that what needs to be accomplished has not been properly communicated. Many people, who are unsure of their role in an assignment, or even the existence of an assignment, will sit around uselessly until someone fills them in. Communication is actually the most important time management tool that you can have. Without it, you will see very little, if anything, get done. Good supervision, reporting, and communication will allow your staff to be informed, industrious, and efficient. With that kind of staff, you will be surprised that you had it any other way before.
